Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced and commercially savvy Buyer to lead Zalora’s modest private label portfolio—Zalia and Zalia Basics. This role requires a deep understanding of the modest fashion landscape in Southeast Asia, especially Malaysia and Indonesia. The ideal candidate is expected to step in immediately, take ownership of the brand’s direction, and drive strong commercial performance, with a key focus on expanding our Indonesia market footprint.

Key Responsibilities

1. Private Label Brand Ownership – Zalia & Zalia Basics

  • Lead end-to-end buying lifecycle, from assortment planning to launch, for Zalia and Zalia Basics across key seasons (including Raya, Non Raya).
  • Partner with design and product development teams to create trend-led yet culturally appropriate collections tailored to the modest consumer.
  • Conduct fittings and product reviews to ensure quality, modesty compliance, and commerciality.
  • Define product pricing, margin strategy, and category architecture to maximize sell-through and profitability.

2. Modest Market & Trend Leadership

  • Act as the internal modest wear expert, constantly monitoring regional fashion, religious, and cultural trends to keep the brand relevant.
  • Benchmark against regional competitors and global modest brands to inspire innovation and differentiation.
  • Provide input to the design team with clear briefs that reflect customer needs across Malaysia, Indonesia, and other SEA markets.

3. Performance & Trade Management

  • Monitor weekly trade reports, analyze product/category performance, and initiate timely actions such as replenishment, markdowns, or style phase-outs.
  • Manage OTB alongside the Planning team to ensure optimal stock availability and margin delivery.
  • Own key metrics: NMV, ROS, STR, return rate, and gross margin.

4. Market Expansion – Indonesia

  • Localize assortment strategy and fit for the Indonesian market, leveraging sales data, consumer insights, and cultural knowledge.
  • Collaborate with local ops and marketing to support brand growth and enhance customer reach.
  • Identify and build local collaborations or exclusive capsule drops for the ID market.

5. Cross-functional Leadership

  • Work closely with Production, Marketing, Studio, Site Merchandising, and Operations to ensure timely and smooth execution of campaigns and deliveries.
  • Align with internal teams on calendar, pricing, and site strategy to maintain a cohesive customer journey.

6. Strategic Reporting & Insights

  • Provide monthly and seasonal performance analysis, product highlights, and recommendations for future growth.
  • Lead post-mortems and present assortment performance to senior management with clear, actionable takeaways.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of buying or merchandising experience, preferably in modest fashion, private label, or womenswear.
  • Strong commercial mindset with proven success in managing multi-million NMV portfolios and delivering YoY growth.
  • Deep knowledge of modest fashion preferences in Southeast Asia, especially Malaysia and Indonesia.
  • Excellent product sensibility with an eye for trends, fit, and customer relevance.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with numbers, reporting, and profitability metrics.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and lead end-to-end execution with minimal supervision.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in launching or scaling a brand in Indonesia.
  • Background in fashion design, textile, or product development.
  • Familiarity with ecommerce tools (Tableau, Looker, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, etc.).
